Atlantic Croaker

Atlantic Croaker is a prolific visitor on the Outer Banks. You can find them in the summer months mixed in with the Norfolk spot when the water temps get to seventy degrees. Target them from late spring to early fall.Croaker 1

Average size found on the Outer Banks is ten to eighteen inches with same ranging a lot larger.

These tasty fish can be caught is both the sounds and oceans. The best bait is blood worms or fish bites on a standard bottom rig. I have also catch them on Hopkins or Crocodile spoons.

The bite is aggressive and fight is strong. These fish have a distinctive loud “croaking” sound when catch.

These fish are one of the best tasting fish and a great for table faire.

The best bet for catching these fish – head to the local piers early or late in the day and with a moving tide.
