Kill Devil Hills maintains many recreational dune cross-overs within the town limits where pedestrians can access the beach.

Theses recreational dune cross-overs are designed to provide the angler and beachcomber safe access. Many areas have sufficient parking and provide an assortment of other public accommodations.

Each recreational area description will identify the parking area, handicapped accessibility, amenities and if 4-wheel drive vehicle access to the beach is permitted. The nearest cross street and its relationship to the Beach Road will be noted.

Always use caution and follow any public signage when parking in these areas or on the public streets and using the dune cross-overs.

The following streets have “Pedestrian dune cross-overs”. All of these streets run perpendicular to the Beach Road. Most areas have parking and other public recreational facilities.

Kill Devil Hills permits unlimited off road vehicles on the beach from October 1 through April 30. No special permit is required as long as the vehicle has a State Registration and the operator is licensed. Extreme caution should taken to avoid driving or damaging the dunes.
